Scandinavian Model Killed in Bicycle Accident in New York City.

A motor vehicle may weigh over 3,000 pounds. Conversely, a bicycle offers no protection in the case of a car accident. Accidents involving bicyclists thus result in significant and substantial injuries. If you or a loved one have been gravely injured in a bicycle accident, you may be able to receive money damages for the resulting injuries. This money can be used for medical bills, pain and suffering, and lost wages from an inability to continue working. Although no amount of money can ever bring back a loved one who may have passed away, the money will help ease the debt owed to hospitals for their care and other expenses. Our experienced and highly skilled team of Massachusetts bicycle accident lawyers are here to help. Anna Maria Mostrom was a contestant in the Scandinavian version of “Top Model” in 2005. She also has appeared in fashion shows for Oscar de la Renta and Roberto Cavalli. Two years ago, Ms. Mostrom moved to New York City. She resided on Roosevelt Island, and was then trying her hand at things other than modeling.

On October 14, 2014, Ms. Mostrom was riding her bicycle down Main Street on the island. A bus, making a left turn, hit her in an intersection. What exactly happened remains unclear. Ms. Mostrom either swerved into the bus or the bus bumped her. She suffered severe brain injuries from the bike accident and was then considered brain dead. A week after the accident, Ms. Mostrom’s family took her off life support.

The bus that hit her was being operated by the Red Bus Service, which is owned by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp. The bus driver stayed at the scene after the crash. Ms. Mostrom’s family has filed a lawsuit against the Roosevelt Island Operating Corp. Her father also is suing the bosses at the state entity involved for the release of the 911 tapes, surveillance videos and a witness list, so that he can prepare his lawsuit. An initial version of the incident report that was released stated the driver to be at fault.
